Bio of Gordon Lampman
(I can write your professional bio too)
Gordon Lampman is a student in Niagara College’s Public Relations program. He came to Niagara College after a 20-year career in policing with the Hamilton Police Service. Gordon is motivated to start a new adventure and develop new skills that he can use to improve other people's lives.
Gordon’s success and effectiveness as a police officer were based on communication. In the early years of his policing, supervisors quickly recognized him as an excellent communicator who could adapt to the needs of a diverse population in a multicultural city. Gordon served as a domestic violence investigator. He helped make roads safer as a breathalyzer technician and was designated as a drug recognition expert. Later in his career, Gordon prepared documents for Hamilton’s courts. This experience sharpened the precision of his already excellent writing skills. Gordon’s career with Hamilton police came to an end when he was diagnosed with the injury of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Gordon does not consider PTSD to be the end of his story but a new beginning. “I am thankful for my PTSD. It made me a better person and has given me new opportunities. I took the time to rebuild, and I believe I have built myself stronger and more compassionate than I was before.” Gordon has taken those lessons and used them for the community around him. Gordon is passionate about helping others become the best they can be and creating opportunities for others.
Gordon is an active and committed coach with West Niagara Special Olympics and proud member of the Rotary Club of Grimsby.
Gordon holds a BA from McMaster University, where he majored in history, a Graduate Diploma of Education (primary) from the University of Western Sydney, and a certificate in Mindfulness in Modern Society from McMaster University.
Gordon shares his life with his spouse, Colleen. Together, they have raised four children, and are grandparents to two-year-old Miles.
